Got Dirt?

Then put Soil School 2013 on your calendar!  West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District partners with East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District, and Natural Resources Conservation Service to present a half-day packed full of information for farmers, landscapers, gardeners, grounds managers who want to improve the health of their soil.

Why is soil important?

The health of your soil determines the health of everything that grows in it—the food you eat and sell…the products animals eat…and the natural world that is sustained by your soil.

Two workshop tracks are featured; Get to Know Your Soil and Improving Your Soil.  Attendees will learn about soil basics, structure, texture and look at soils under a microscope.  During the second track, participants will get their hands dirty!  They’ll look at soil tests, learn how to interpret them and examine the different ways of improving soil health.

Speakers/panelists to date include:

  • OSU Extension Community & Urban Horticulturalist Weston Miller
  • James Cassidy, (aka Dr. Soil)
  • Rural Conservationist Scott Gall, West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District
  • NRCS District Conservationist Steve Fedje

Continental breakfast will be provided and door prizes will be awarded!  For more information, please call WMSWCD Rural Conservationist Scott Gall at 503/238-4775, ext. 105 or email at scott@wmswcd.org.
